- COLUMBIA Technologies’ highly trained and experienced field geochemists have been conducting MIP investigations since 2000. Our operators have more than 30 years of combined experience utilizing direct sensing technology and have conducted environmental and geotechnical investigations at more than 500 sites, including Superfund sites, military bases, and industrial facilities. We normally utilize PID, FID, and ECD detectors to successfully delineate petroleum hydrocarbon and chlorinated solvent plumes, as well as identify source areas. Our clients receive tremendous decision-making advantages with our patented SmartData Solutions® system. SmartData Solutions® collects multiple channels of direct sensing information, processes the information in real time, and displays the information in 2-D and 3-D high definition visualizations to field and office team members simultaneously – allowing for decisions to be made rapidly and with confidence.
Using SmartData Solutions®, clients get up-to-the-minute information as soon as a data point (MIP boring location) is completed. Initial MIP data logs are processed and printed, and MIP data is immediately uploaded to a secure, client-specific Web site. With the subsequent addition of data-points, plan views, cross sections, and 3-D imaging are typically provided within an hour after upload. Our mobile, state-of-the-art data communications center located on site allows our clients to access their Web site, view MIP logs and SmartData Plots, check e-mails, discuss site data, and determine data gaps and additional boring locations. Other project members can access the same information provided to field members from anywhere in the world. Additional environmental and geotechnical data, such as electrical conductivity (soil type) and/or confirmation soil and/or groundwater sample data, can also be incorporated into SmartData Plots, further enhancing our client’s conceptual site model. - Methods of MIP Deployment:
- We work primarily with service partners throughout North America who employ Geoprobe® direct push rigs and cone penetrometer systems.
- Special Capabilities:
- Difficult Access
COLUMBIA can operate in areas where access is difficult using 4-wheel-drive vehicles and Kawasaki "Mule" or John Deere "Gator" ATV configurations. Our direct sensing vehicles are equipped with dual rod strings to minimize down time by providing redundancy and to increase our flexibility to use MIP and Laser Induced Fluorescence (LIF) sensors on the same site investigation. - MIP/CPT Combinations
We are experienced in operating MIP/Cone Penetrometer Technology (CPT) combinations. The MIP probe is pushed statically in line with a CPT cone. In addition to saving time and associated costs with one push, it also provides excellent soil characteristic and contaminant data. CPT systems also provide an excellent platform for employing additional sensors such as passive gamma detectors for mixed waste sites. - LIF Technology
We are pleased to offer Laser-Induced Fluorescence (LIF). Our LIF mapping technology profiles underground petroleum, oil, and lubricant contamination using state-of-the-art UltraViolet Optical Screening Tool, (UVOSTTM). - SmartData Solutions®
Using thousands of data points collected with MIP or LIF technology in combination with SmartData Solutions® data processing capability, our clients get detailed site conceptual models, and accurate, high definition 3-D site maps, all of which are delivered immediately. Data reports include color-coded logs that convey qualitative, at-a-glance information. Click here to see real-time data in action.
